Revision as of 19:19, 12 October 2024
The infernal cape is the most powerful melee cape in terms of overall bonuses, awarded for defeating TzKal-Zuk in the Inferno. It surpasses its predecessor, the fire cape, boasting greater melee attack and strength bonuses, along with slightly higher defensive bonuses. In spite of this, it is still surpassed by the Ardougne cloaks 3 and 4 in stab attack and prayer bonuses, and by the mythical cape in crush attack.
An infernal cape can be exchanged for a chance of obtaining the Jal-nib-rek pet by speaking to TzHaar-Ket-Keh. Like killing TzKal-Zuk, there is a 1/100 chance of obtaining the pet this way. If the player already has the pet, capes cannot be exchanged.
An infernal cape can be combined with the max cape to change its appearance by turning it into the infernal max cape.
As of 1 September 2024, there are 98,242 current members that have obtained an infernal cape.
If the player dies below level 20 Wilderness, it will remain in the player's inventory; however, the item will be unusable and must be repaired by using it on Perdu and paying him 225,000. If not protected when the player dies at level 20 Wilderness or higher, the cape is converted into coins. Alternatively, a Trouver parchment and a payment of 500,000 coins can be given to Perdu in order to lock it (after which it gains the (l) suffix); this allows the item to be kept in death, unbroken, even if the player dies at level 20 Wilderness or higher.
This item can be stored in the cape rack of a costume room.

Comparison
The infernal cape is very popular for many forms of melee combat and is often the cape of choice. In certain scenarios, other capes may be preferred for their higher accuracy bonuses, higher Prayer bonus, or for being easier to obtain or replace.

Trivia
- The first player to obtain the cape was Woox, who claimed the cape two days after release.[1]
- As the first player to complete the Inferno, he was awarded a real-life version of the infernal cape, as well as a RuneFest 2017 ticket with full-expenses paid travel and lifetime membership.[2]
- The infernal cape and fire cape, along with their max cape variants, are the only capes to have an animated texture whilst wearing them.
- As of 13 November 2020, 1,692 infernal capes have been removed from users who obtained an infernal cape illegitimately by having another person complete the Inferno for them.[3]
